Elmer "Butch" Adams

Elmer "Butch" Adams, 66, of Eagle, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, in Joshua Tree, Calif., while visiting family.

As a devout Catholic, his love for the Virgin Mary and prayer was evident in his everyday life. A vigil and rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, and funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Meridian, with Father Timothy Ritchey of the church presiding. Burial will follow in Cloverdale Memorial Park, Boise, to be laid alongside his son, John.

Butch was born March 12. 1932, at Barbourville, Ky., the son of William Campbell Adams and Cenie Eva Davis. He moved from Kentucky with his parents and six brothers and sisters to Indianapolis, Ind., in 1945.

Butch attended schools in both Kentucky and Indiana. He married Margaret Lucille Christ on May 4, 1950, and they began raising a family of two sons and two daughters. They moved to California in 1955, where Butch worked for a few major corporations until starting his own business. Adams Welding Co was owned and operated by Butch in California for nine years and as they moved to Boise area in 1978, it continued to flourish in Idaho for an additional 10 years.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, and was a master of playing poker, where he continually surprised his card-playing partners with his "two pair" and his mastery of the ever-popular "bluff." He was also known to stop at almost every "yard sale" that he encountered. He truly loved and cherished his family and friends, but most all, her loved and doted over his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lucille; children, Steve and his wife, Mary Adams, Becky and her husband, Bryon Prevost, Debbie and her husband, Gary Eastburn. Also surviving are two sisters, Helen and Katherine "Kat"; three brothers, Will, Tom, and David; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Johnny; two brothers; and a grandchild.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian.
