John S. (Steve) Barnhart, 89, of Plumbsock, Prosperity RD 1, died October 8, 1986, at his home. Born May 25, 1897, in Greene County, near Ryerson Station, he was a son of Steven and Anna Barnhart.

He had lived for the past 44 years at Prosperity RD 1. Mr. Barnhart had attended Ryerson Station Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with Company A of the 163rd Brigade Infantry and was the last living member of his unit. He had been employed in the Greene County gas fields until 1942, when he then worked at Jessop Steel, where he was employed for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1962.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Ostrander Barnhart; four sons, James Barnhart, of Amity; Charles Barnhart, of Prosperity; George Barnhart of Washington and Kenneth Barnhart of Ruff Creek; two daughters, Edith Briggs of Marshallville, Ohio, and Wilma Hupp of Banetown; a foster son, Charles Koscheck of Sycamore; a brother, Bryan Barnhart of Salem, Ohio; a sister, Fern Grim of Beech Bottom, W. Va.; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Joseph Barnhart; a grandson, Tony Hupp; three brothers, Louis, Jobe and Robert Barnhart, and three sisters, Lena Ogden, Anna Scherich and Evelyn Newman. Burial was in Horn Cemetery, Marianna, Pa.--Laura Nelle Poland Mallett
