Lena Hobt was the second daughter and youngest child of Albert and Mary Catherine (Min) Watt Hobt. She is found in the following US Federal census records:

- 1910 for Wellstone, Jackson Co., Ohio with her parents, maternal grandmother, and two siblings, occupation listed as school teacher
- 1920 for Wellston, Jackson Co., Ohio with her parents and sister, Florence, occupation listed as teacher in a public school
- 1930 for Wellson, Jackson Co., Ohio with her parents, occupation teacher in public school
- 1940 for Wellston, Jackson Co., Ohio as head of household, with a fellow teacher, Agnes Cooper

The 1920 US Federal Census lists her occupation as a school teacher. On 17 June, 1925 Lena C. Hobt was granted Elementary School Life Certificate from the state of Ohio, which made it possible for her to teach school. This was followed by a High School Life Certificate on 24 August 1931 from the state of Ohio. After this she taught at Wellson High School, Jackson Co., Ohio. She remained unmarried.

After the death of Lena's parents, another teacher, Agnes Cooper, lived with Lena. They were called Aunt Agnes and Aunt Lena by Lena's grand niece and nephew. Both these ladies are fondly remembered as great fun when they visited Lena's brother, Watt Hobt, in Knoxville, Tn. Aunt Lena loved to laugh and had a gentle way and a geniune interest in children, so we were always happy to see her.
