Lothrop Rites Set Friday

Ex-U. P. Agent Dies at Age 83

Funeral services for John H. Lothrop, 83, 2015 N.E. 52d avenue, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Holman and Lutz mortuary. Mr. Lothrop died here Tuesday, after a two months' illness. Mr. Lothrop was born at Sharon, Mass. After graduation from Harvard university, he joined the Union Pacific, as general freight and passenger agent in Portland from 1898 to 1901. From 1901 to 1911, he was general agent of the railroad at St. Louis.

In 1911, Mr. Lothrop returned to Portland to become secretary of the traffic and transportation bureau of the chamber of commerce. He held that position until 1923. In recent years, he has served as vice consul for Uruguay and had, for several years. Served in a similar capacity for Brazil and Argentina.

His hobby was golf and he was for many years a member of Waverly Country club.

Mr. Lothrop was a member of Friendship Masonic lodge, Washington Commandery of Knights Templar, and Al Kader Temple of the Shrine.

Survivors are three sons, Frederick A., John H. Jr., and William A. of Portland; a brother and sister, Dr. Oliver A. Lothrop and Mrs. Frederick Worcester of Boston, Mass., and two grandsons.
