Hans was the son of IVER NIELSON DONNUM an immigrant from Batnfjordsora More og Romsdahl Norway. His father died when he was 16 (1885) so as soon as he was 18 he left home to take some of the stress off his mother. He married in 1895, a woman named Louisa, but her maiden name is not known. He was an accomplished violin maker, though where he learned the craft is not known. It was said that in his youth he could jump into the air, kick the ceiling and land on his feet. He died in 1959 at age 90, but was still sharp and very joyful to the end of his life.
