From the "Boston Herald," 9 Nov 1923, in part:
Funeral services for Alexander DeWitt of the one-time banking firm of Kinnicutt & DeWitt, who died yesterday, will be held at his home....
Mr. DeWitt was born in Pepperell, March 7, 1854. His father, Horace DeWitt, dying when he was a child, he was brought up in the home of his grandfather, Col. Alexander DeWitt of Oxford.
He received his education in the public schools of Oxford and Sutton and at Leicester Academy and came to this city in 1871 to enter the store of Kinnicutt & Co., hardware merchants, the firm consisting of Francis H. Kinnicutt and Samuel Woodward.
In 1881 he left Kinnicutt & Co. and entered the employ of J. & J. Murdock of Leicester.
Lincoln N. Kinnicutt, with whom he associated during his first employment, also left the hardware business and enterred the banking house of George T. Rice.
In the late eighties the two again met and formed the banking and brokerage firm of Kinnicutt and DeWitt.
In a very short while they became well known throughout the state as bankers and they became members of the Boston stock exchange.
They retired from business in 1905 and, although they did not dissolve partnership, which they maintained for mutual interests until Mr. Kinnicutt died two years ago, the firm business was conducted under the name of Kinsley & Adams.
....
He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Caroline Murdock, daughter of Joshua Murdock of Leicester, whom he married Sept. 21, 1880. There were no children.
