James Rex Kirk, Jr. (Jay)



Jay Kirk passed away May 16, 2013 following a brief illness. Jay was born on April 30, 1929 to Dorothy Grow and James Rex Kirk, Sr. He grew up in Tooele and graduated from TooeleHigh School. Jay married his sweetheart, Joann Alice Charles on October 21, 1948 and together they raised four children.

Jay accomplished many things in his life. He was ambitious and had a very strong work ethic. In his early years, he was the Sales Manager at Mantes Chevrolet and Stoker Motors. He opened his own real estate office, Carriage West Realty which later became Coldwell Banker Carriage West Realty. Jay was very instrumental in the growth and development of the Tooele area through his real estate expertise and taught many realtors the business. Jay continued to come into the office every day up to the very end.

He was very involved in the community and was well respected for his endeavors. He was proud to say he was a member of the Tooele City Volunteer Fire department for 55 years. Jay cherished his many friendships in the community and enjoyed socializing with them. He was very kind, thoughtful, and generous and enjoyed helping everyone around him. Jay and Joann enjoyed traveling taking many trips to Mexico, Hawaii, and other sunny destinations.

Jay is survived by his sisters Gayle (Ira) Judd, Barbara (Blair) Harrison, Christie (Nolan) Steadman, and Susan (Tom) Perkins. He is also survived by his children Leonard (Denise) Kirk, Debbie (Jim) Millward, and Darin Kirk. Jay had and seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one on the way. His family will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joann Kirk, and son Jim Kirk.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 20 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main Street in Tooele. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Skyline Ward building, 777 E. Skyline Drive in Tooele with a viewing from 9:30 - 10:30. Interment at the TooeleCityCemetery.
