She was born Nov. 25, 1985, in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late Michael Alan Karus and Cheryl Dammeyer of Quincy.
A member of the Class of 2005 at Riverside High School, where she played softball and basketball, was in the choir and was an honor student, she was a Michigan fan, attended Calvary Baptist Church and planned to study social work at Bluffton University.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ryan Karus and Cody Crabtree, both of Quincy; a sister, Stephanie (Dallas) Clary of Quincy; maternal grandparents, Carl and Sandy Dammeyer of Quincy; maternal great-grandmother, Mary Bell of DeGraff; several aunts, uncles and cousins; a niece, Raelyn of Quincy; and a nephew, Gaven of Quincy.
Calling is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home in DeGraff. Pastor Lynn Mercer officiates at an 11 a.m. Saturday funeral at the Gretna Brethren Church. Burial is in the Huntsville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Children's Services.
On the morning she was to graduate high school, her friend Scott Moody walked a half-mile to his grandparents' farmhouse and began what authorities say was the first stop in a gruesome murder-suicide that ended in six deaths.
The only survivor, Moody's critically wounded sister, Stacey, 15, used her cell phone to call for help.
Scott Moody and Karus were to have graduated Sunday afternoon from Riverside High School in nearby De Graff. School officials, who had only minutes of notice about the deaths before the ceremony began, held graduation as scheduled and announced the shootings afterward.
Two seats remained empty at the commencement.
May they all rest eternally
