Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he was engaged in farming when he enlisted in the 12th Louisiana Infantry and was elected Colonel. He led the 12th Louisiana in campaigns of the war in Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. During the Battle of Atlanta, he distinguished himself and was promoted Brigadier General in May, 1864. He led a brigade at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee, was severely wounded on November 30, 1864 and saw no further action for the remainder of the war. After the war, he returned to Louisiana and operated a sugar plantation until his death.
