Winnie Ferrell Melson,78, of Grapeland, passed away at her home.

Mrs. Melson was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and lifelong member of the Percilla First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and a quilter who opened her home and heart to all and was known to donate handmade custom quilts to schools, veteran groups and once had an annual quilt show in Grapeland.

Mrs. Melson and her husband Cecil owned and operated Winnie's Kitchen Restaurant in Grapeland during the late 70's and in 1991 she opened The Attic Window Quilt Shop.

She is survived by her children, Jackie Melson and wife Pam, Diane Haws and husband Henry and Jeff Melson; grandchildren, Joe, Kim, Danielle, Lori, Randy, Choyce, Lesley, Brandy, Vanessa, Magan and Justin; numerous great grandchildren, all of her nieces and nephews that always held a special place in her heart; and leaves behind her little dog Kelsey; parrot Sam; and all of her white doves, including Snowflake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Junior "Butch" Melson; second husband, Wesley Leamons; brother, Carmon Ferrell; sisters, Maxine Callaway and nephews, Charles Robinson and James Callaway.
