VINTON - Joyce Schlarbaum, 72, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Banner Hospice in Peoria, AZ following a sudden illness.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Rev. Dr. Judith Bunyi officiating. Interment was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Joyce was born July 16, 1940 in Vinton to Byron and Jennabel (Braginton) Abernathy and graduated from the Vinton High School in 1958.

On April 12, 1959 she was united in marriage to Roger Schlarbaum at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton. The couple owned and operated Schlarbaum Real Estate since 1965, and enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona.
Joyce was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing Bridge with friends in Vinton and in Urbana. She will be remembered for a smile that would light up the room. Joyce adored her entire family. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Roger of Vinton; her sons, Kevin (Jackie) Schlarbaum of Mount Auburn and Scott Schlarbaum of Vinton; special family member, Todd Rosonke of Vinton; her grandchildren, Kelsey Kimm and Jared Kimm, both of Vinton, Dustan (Tiffany) Smith of Vinton, Lisa Maestas- U.S. Army, Clayton Schlarbaum, of Kansas City, Kansas, Natasha Andrews of Garrison and Carly Jean Schlarbaum of Mount Auburn; three great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Vicki Abernathy of Vinton; and her nephew, Michael (Ellen) Abernathy and their children of Prairie Sac, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lori Schlarbaum Kimm on August 13, 2012; her grandson, Brent Schlarbaum, and her brother, Steve Abernathy.
