She was born in Strong, Maine and graduated from Strong High School in 1934 and Pasadena Junior College in 1936. She worked as a secretary for Mobil in Portland, Maine. There she met Carl W. Ackley whom she married in 1947. They lived in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York before retiring to W. Barnstable, MA in 1970. Barbara was active in Dig and Delve Garden Club and the Friends of Whelden Memorial Library for many years.
She was predeceased by Carl, her husband of 56 years. She is survived by her daughters: Joan Carr of Rochester, NY, Dale Pluta of Vienna, VA, and Vivian Ackley of Hampstead, NH. She is also survived by her brother James Worthley, four grandsons, three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private burial at Crocker Park Cemetery in W. Barnstable. For those wishing to do so, a donation in her memory could be made to Whelden Memorial Library.
