John Andrejewski, Sayreville, was volunteer fireman 62 years

SAYREVILLE - John J. Andrejewski Sr., 88, died yesterday at South Amboy Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Sayreville. Before retiring in 1957, he had been a supervisor with Railway Express, South Amboy and Matawan, where he had been employed for 40 years. Mr. Andrejewski served as a councilman in the Borough of Sayreville from 1936-38.
He was a charter member of the Melrose Hose Co. 1, Sayreville, and served as a volunteer fireman for 62 years. Mr. Andrejewski was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association and the Exempt Fire Chief's Association. He was an Army veteran of World War I. In addition, he was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 62, and belonged to the Catholic War Veterans, both of South Amboy. He was a charter member of the South Amboy First Aid Squad.
Mr. Andrejewski was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, South Amboy, and belonged to its Holy Name Society. His wife, Rose Chismar Andrejewski, died in 1978.
Services will be Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main St., South Amboy, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sayreville.
