DEATH AND WEDDING IN HOME OF CALVIN FILLER AT ROSSITER
Father Crushed by Fall of Rock While Preparing for Daughter's Wedding.
VICTIM LEAVES FAMILY OF TEN
As he labored in the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation's mine at Rossiter yesterday morning Calvin S. Filler, aged 46, contemplated a wedding that was to take place in his home that afternoon when his daughter Alma was to wed Charles States, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel States, of near Rossiter. He had planned to leave work early to be present at the ceremony and had taken keen interest in the arrangements for the wedding dinner that was to have been served.
Shortly before 11 o'clock four hours before the hour set for the wedding, a rock instantly crushed out his life, and the home that was to have been the scene of a joyous marriage was cast into gloom. At the hours scheduled, however, the young bride sobbingly took her marriage vows, finally persuaded that "Dad" would have wished it.
Calvin S. Filler, was born June 5, 1883, near Rossiter, a son of Robert and Elizabeth Filler and in 1901 was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Fisher. He had been a life long resident of Rossiter and vicinity and was held in the highest esteem there and in Punxsutawney where he was well known.
He was a member of the John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge of Punxsutawney and the I.O.O.F. and the Presbyterian Church, of Rossiter. He had been employed about the mines where he was known as a faithful workman, a good citizen and a splendid husband, father and neighbor.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Filler, his widow and the following sons and daughters: Samuel, of Perrypoint, Md.; Ira, of Beaver Falls; Glenn, Wayne, Leroy, Grant, Sara and Mrs. Charles States, of Rossiter; Mrs. H. P. Painter, of Marchand; Mrs. Daniel Baker, of Cleveland, O. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Lee, of Rossiter; Lester, of Dayton, Warren, of Portland, Ore., and Mrs Albert Nelson, of Akron, O.
Funeral services will be held in the Union Church at Rossiter Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 o'clock with interment in the Union Cemetery. Rev. Jordan and the local Masonic Lodge will have charge of the ceremony.
