He was the son of Adam & Mary Beamguard. During the Civil War he enlisted in the 17th Regiment of the SCV, Co, F, Capt. J.W. Avery's Carolina Rifles, for a period of 12 months, as a private. He died at the hospital 5-12-1862, Camp Fillion, John's Island SC. He had been ill with Pneumonia & Typhoid fever.
Obituary from the York Co, SC Death Notices 1823-1865, the 6-19-1862 edition: Died at Camp Pillow, John's Island, on the 12th of May, Mr. Samuel W. Beamguard, in the 26th year of his age. Carolina Rifles, 17th Regiment, SCV.

His tombstone has not survived.
