He was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Stokes County to J. K. Smith Sr. and Ida Carrie Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired appliance dealer. After his retirement, one of his favorite hobbies was looking after homeless cats. He was a charter member of The First Presbyterian Church of Pilot Mountain.
Survivors include his wife, Clara J. Smith of the home; a son, Kenneth A. Smith, and a brother, Roland W. Smith, both of Pilot Mountain.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Smith Badgett, and two brothers, J.K. Smith Jr. and Raymond M. Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at Howell-Nelson Chapel of Pilot Mountain by the Rev. Kristi Mills Rolison. Interment will follow at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
