David James Conner was a Private for the United States Army. David was born on March 18, 1973 and was from Garden Grove, California. On February 15, 1993, he died in a non-hostile incident in Kenya at the age of 19.
David attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood during the summer of 1992. He deployed to Somalia on December 28, 1992.

David was Fatally hurt in a truck accident while taking water to troops in Somalia, David was the fourth soldier to die during Operation Restore Hope. He was the first noncombatant fatality, and the only Army death since the mission began in December. David died from fatal head injuries that incurred February 07, 1993 when the truck he was driving swerved and crashed into a ravine while he was transporting water to troops in Somalia. David was taken to a hospital in Kenya, but never regained consciousness and was taken off of life support.

David grew up in Santa Ana, on his grandmother Beatrice Conner's property. He attended Newhope Elementary, Steven R. Fitz Intermediate, and Los Amigos High School where he played football and baseball (Class of 1991). He moved to Huntington Beach with his mother after his father died in 1990. David wanted to follow his father and brother as a truck driver, even though he wanted a career in architecture after finishing his military service. Because his dad always told him and his brother Greg A truck driver can work anywhere. If you have your Class A license it's your meal ticket all over the world. You will never be without a job.
