Terry was born to Leonard CROTHERS and Arline CRITES. Terry married Mary Hezlep on November 7, 1970, in South Bend, Indiana. The marriage produced two sons. Terry retired in July 2012 from Oliver Ford in Plymouth, Indiana, as an auto parts manager. He was a graduate of Mishawaka High School (Indiana), Class of 1968. He owned, rebuilt and restored several vintage Chevy Impalas, and he was a member of the Coachman Auto Club and the National Impala Association. Terry enjoyed playing volleyball, camping, and traveled throughout the United States; he made it to each of the lower 48 states.
