Philip Morse started the first major lumber yard in San Diego in 1884 with financing from Dolbeer and Carson's Mill at Eureka, CA. The company moved in 1955 and closed in 1968.

Albert A. Frost, 1888-1968, was manager at the time of construction of the lumber building in Downtown San Diego.

In 1911 Frost founded the Frost Hardwood Lumber Company. After 80 years in their Downtown location the Frost Company moved in 1991 to 6565 Miramar Rd.
