She was a resident of Florence for more than 60 years. Affectionately known by all as "Mom Bea," she had a wonderful outgoing personality that lived life every day, and was a devoted, loving mother.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Greenview Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mrs. May was born in Anniston, Ala., on April 10, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. John Hollingsworth, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence May; brothers, Hubert, Bryant, Jack, Jim, Efford (Honey) and Lamar; sister, Mary Deason; grandson, Drew Hollingsworth May; and devoted friend and companion, Jim Owens.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry May (Barbara), of Atlanta, Ga., J. David May (Marla), of Summerdale, Ala., Scott May (Anya), of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Billie Canada, of Anniston, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer May, of Atlanta, Ann May McClure (Walt), of Brentwood, Tenn.; and stepgrandchildren, Keith Balsamo (Judy), Amy Call (Trey), of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; great-granddaughters, Sara and Molly McClure; stepgranddaughters, Jana, Olivia and Claire; 21 nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Comfort Care Hospice of Huntsville, Ala.
