Stansfield Ambrose Walton was born on January 2, 1874 in Kirksville, Missouri, son of English immigrants Reuben Ambrose Walton (1838-1913) and Hannah Richmond (1837-1909). He married (1st) Nora J. Cavett on March 26, 1902 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma and they had five children. After her death in 1952 he married (2nd) Myrtle V. Bouse on April 18, 1953. He died in a Nowata hospital on June 2, 1960 after a long illness. He was 86.

The 1880 Federal Census for Aurora, Kansas (Cloud County) shows Ambrose S. Walton, age 6, born in Missouri; living with his father, Reuben Walton, a farmer, age 40, born in England; and his mother, Hannah, age 41, born in England. Also living in the household were Ambrose's siblings: Elizabeth Walton, age 16, born in England; John M. Walton, a farm laborer, age 14, born in England; and Matilda R. Walton, age 4, born in Missouri.

Stansfield married Nora J. Cavett, who was born July 1879 in Missouri, daughter of James M. Cavett and Mary F. Kent.

The 1910 Federal Census for Otter, Oklahoma (Kingfisher County) shows Stansfield A. Walton, a blacksmith, age 36, born in Missouri; and his wife, Nora J. Walton, age 30, born in Missouri. Living with them were four children: Mae L. Walton, age 7; Reuben E. Walton, age 5; James O. Walton, age 4; and Mildred E. Walton, age 2; all born in Oklahoma. In addition, Stansfield's father, Reuben Walton, age 70, born in England, was living with the family.
