Rufus C. Moyers Killed by Gas
Rufus C. Moyers, 37, was accidently killed; on Decmeber 14, by a gas explosion in Los Angeles, California. He was a resident of Athens route four prior to going to work in California about three years ago.
The remains arrived in Athens at 12 noon Monday and funeral services were conducted at Tanner Methodist church by Rev. L.D. Langford Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery, Spry directing. Mr. Moyers is survived by one daughter, Beverly Jean; parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Moyers, Athens route 6; four brothers, A.L., Oak Ridge, Tenn., Woodrow, Athens, William and A.W. Jr. Athens route 4, two sisters, Mrs. L.B. Campbell, Athens Route 4, and Mrs. B.L. Brooks, Tanner.
Serving as pallbearers were James Thompson, Charles Thompson, Orman Anderson, Sam Anderson, Douglas Evans, and Leonard Moyers.

Rufus C. was married to Bernice Dunnivant who died only a few short days after giving birth to his daughter. A few years later he married Edith Kemp, this marriage ended in divorce.
