Martha married John C. Rudolph(brother of Lucretia who was married James A. Garfield, future President of the United States) prior to 1857. The couple had four children: Adelaide, born 1858 in Illinois; Gilbert Samuel, born 1860 in Illinois, and twins, Ernest J., and Louis P., born 1863 in Ohio. John died in 1862 while serving as an army wagon master in the U.S. Volunteers, never to see his twin sons.
Martha never remarried but eventually moved to Cleveland(Cuyahoga County), sometime after 1880, where her eldest child, daughter Adelaide, who never married, worked as a librarian. Apparently Martha moved to Manhattan(New York City) after 1910 with Adelaide who had taken a job there as a librarian for an art society, according to the 1920 New York City Census. This explains why Martha is shown in the New York City Death Index (Certificate 13418) as having died in Manhattan, April 17, 1918, hence her burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

Her sons moved from Ohio to Colorado where they mined for gold.
