Mrs. Atherton died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Northbrooke Healthcare Center.
She was born in Crockett County, TN to the late Alonzo Wood and Mabene Ferguson Wood. Mrs. Atherton worked at The Bootery, McClellan's and as a seamstress at J. C. Penney's and was a member of the Malesus United Methodist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F. Atherton; brothers, Roy A. Wood and McDonald Wood and sisters, Martha Jo Durham and Ora Belle Raines.
Surviving are her sons, Joe Atherton and wife, Sandra and Larry Atherton all of Jackson; her grandchildren, Michael Alan Atherton and wife, Candie of Medina and Jennifer Lee Reynolds and husband, Robert, Jr. of Jackson; her great-grandchildren, Blaire VanDerRoest and Faith Atherton both of Medina and Gavin Reynolds and Reese Reynolds both of Jackson and her great-great grandchild, Brycen Stoots.
The family requests any memorials be directed to the Malesus United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Northbrooke Healthcare Center for the special care given to their mother.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church.
