Mr. James Preston McCambry, 78, of Boone Drive, Newnan, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

A funeral will be Thursday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at Burns United Methodist Church, 30 Lovelace Street, Newnan, with Rev. Gregory Williams, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. W. Sutton, Rev. Small and Rev. May. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Newnan. Pallbearers will be Burns United Methodist Men and Newnan Lodge 299. Flower ladies will be Newnan Chapter 483 Order of the Eastern Star members.

The family will receive friends at the church on the day of the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. and until the funeral hour.

Mr. McCambry was the second child of the late James (Jim) and Beatrice McCambry. He was born August 29, 1922. He joined Burns United Methodist Church where he served faithfully as treasurer, chairperson of the Trustee Board and worked on several auxiliaries in the church. He received his education from Carroll County Training School. He served in the United States Army for three years. He worked at William L Bonnell Company until he retired as supervisor. He was a member of the Newnan Lodge 299.

Surviving are his wife, Ethea McCambry; sons, James McCambry, Rayford McCambry (Barbara); daughters, Glenda Lewis (Clarence), Bevelyn Murray (James Albert) Annette Arnold, Sandra Simmons (Gary); sisters, Irene Holland (Charles); brother, Richard McCambry; aunts, Ceola Willouby, Luvenia Bonner, Inez McCambry, Dazelle McCambry; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.
