Commander Edward Storey Buchanan, (USN retired) , 82, died Friday, November 17, 2000 at the Newnan Hospital.

Buchanan was born December 6, 1917 in Newnan son of Hugh and Helen Carpenter Buchanan.

Buchanan a graduate of Newnan High School received his degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years. Buchanan was in the South Pacific during World War II and was a range safety officer for the Pacific Missile Test Range, in Pt. Mugu, California until his retirement. Upon returning to Newnan, Buchanan was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a member of the Newnan Kiwanis Club.

The funeral service will be Monday, November 20, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Dr. Joel E. Richardson will officiate. The burial with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Buchanan's memory to the Central Baptist Church o Newnan.

Surviving are his wife Elizabeth Johnson Buchanan, his daughters and sons-in-law Pamela Buchanan and Michael Kent of Auburn Ala., Elizabeth Buchanan and Johnathan Rogers, Jr. of Midlothian, Va. and three grandchildren
