George M. "Bootie" Johnson, 299 James St., Somerset, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1996, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a long illness. He was 60.

Son of the late Lee Ostis and Sylvia Josephine Smith Johnson, he was born March 15, 1935, in the Jabez community. He was disabled and a member of White Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cuppernell Johnson, whom he married Jan. 17, 1970, in Liberty; three sons, George M. "Red" Johnson and Lee Ostis Johnson, both of Somerset, and Paul Johnson, Muncie, Indiana; two daughters, Mary Johnson Young, Nancy and Carol Anderson, Muncie; a brother, Elroy Johnson, Richmond, Indiana; two sisters, Doris Compton, Somerset and Lois Compton, Moreland, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, including Kendra Johnson, Nicole and Tammy Neal, and Cody and Paul Johnson, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Arlie Johnson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Harris officiating.

Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
