Obituaries - Myrtle W. Almond PHOENIX, ARIZ. - Myrtle W. Almond, 100, after a long and wonderful life passed away peacefully on Monday, July 5, 2004, at her daughter's home in Phoenix, Ariz., where she made her home for the past 24 years after her husband, Lloyd Almond's death in 1976. Born on November 30, 1903, she would spend at least two months of each year back in Racine. Last summer we had a 100th birthday party for her in Racine. She loved it and told us it was one of the best days of her life! She also loved her "lady" friends in Kingman, Ariz., where she enjoyed crafting and going to Las Vegas, Nev. to gamble. She was a very loving, sweet, and sharp "old lady," and will be sadly missed. Survivors are her children, Verlyn (Mildred) Almond of Racine, Kenneth (Sandy) Almond, and Carol (Paul) Hodges, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Gary, Tim, and Tracey Almond and Paul, Mike, and Eric Hodges; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Charles and Agnes Hammill; two brothers, Curtis and Robert Hammill; two sisters, Adeline Smith and Elise Walley; and two grandsons, Gene and Greg Almond. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place in Arizona. She will be brought back to Racine to be buried with her family. Memorial services will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3319 Washington Avenue, on Friday, July 16, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Al Guetzlaff officiating. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday before the service from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Please come and celebrate her life with us. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gethsemane Lutheran Church or to one's favorite charity have been suggested. Hanson Funeral Home 3014 Northwestern Avenue 632-4479
