Caleb graduated 1845 from Virginia Military Institute, studied law under Judge Edward S Duncan, admitted to bar in Clarksburg, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1847, as a delegate from Lewis county, he walked out of the 1861 Secession Convention with other Union supporters. Moved to Clarksburg from Weston in 1861, employed as chief counsel in West Virginia for the Baltimore & Ohio railroad company, successfully argued cases before both, Supreme Court of West Virginia and United States. ~ SOURCE, in part, from History of Harrison County, page 136.
