Eleanor M. (Reiss) Moore Mattern, 85, of Wenona, died peacefully on February 22, 2020 with her daughter Catherine by her side in Henry Healthcare.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday in St. Mary's Church in Wenona with the Francisian Friars officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wenona. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The Hurst Funeral Home in Wenona is handling her arrangements.

Mrs. Mattern was born in Peoria on August 31, 1934 to August David and Ethel (Stoner) Ries [sic: Reiss]. She graduated from Mid-County High School in 1952 and Illinois State Normal University in 1955. She married Michael A. Moore on September 12, 1959 and he died December 8, 1996. She then married Henry "Hank" Mattern on November 18, 2000 and he died on January 7, 2012.

Eleanor was a math teacher at La Moille, Wenona, Streator High Schools and then a teacher's aid in Minonk. She then worked at Garfield Elevator under several owners. Also, she was the Osage Township treasurer for many years.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and tutoring math.

Eleanor is survived by one daughter Catherine Moore Phipps of Lacon; one son, Michael E. Moore; son-in-law Robert Phipps of Lacon; step-son George (Margy) Mattern of Magnolia and step-daughter Mary (Philip) Edgerley of Granville; two grandchildren, Emily Moore and Genevieve Phipps; six step-grandchildren, Jon Mattern, Anna Mattern, Nick Mattern, Emily (Pierre) Alexander and Rachel (Yuriy) Germanovich; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (the late Gary) Bertolo of Roanoke and Mary (Ira) Simpson of Decatur; two nieces and four nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, a granddaughter Hannah Eleanor Phipps and a step-grandson Phillip Edgerley.

Pallbearers will be Robert Phipps, George Mattern, Philip Edgerley, Steve McClure, Lester Miller, Everett Solon and Melissa Whalen Smith.

Memorials may be directed to Patrick's pALS or Poverell in care of St. Mary's Church.
