Mary Elizabeth Lawrence, 84, of New Windsor, died Friday, May 24, 2013, at Carroll Hospital Center.

Born March 16, 1929, in Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Mary Ness Grimes. She was the wife of James Calvin Lawrence, who she married Nov. 19, 1949.

She had worked for Oakland Mills Textile as a yarn spinner and machine operator. Then she was a cafeteria assistant in Uniontown Elementary School for 29 years, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of Uniontown Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, baking pies for family, friends and for the New Windsor Carnival and playing Pitch, Rummy and Solitaire with her friends in the community.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters and son-in-law Margaret E. and Joseph Coppola, of Tampa, Fla., and Phyllis L. Lawrence, of Westminster; son James C. Lawrence Jr. and fiance Marie Twigg, of Taneytown; grandchildren Craig Dell and partner Crystal Lane, Ryan Lawrence, and Phillip Lawrence and partner Adam Weller; and a great-grandson, Camden Dell.

She was predeceased by two sisters; and a brother.
