John F. Monahan of New Elizabeth Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Genieve Carduff Monahan.

He worked for many years as a pressman for the color press and then for Coca Cola, retiring about four years ago.

He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer attached to the Manhattan Project during World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 558 in Plains Township and St. Therese Roman Catholic Church in Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jule, in 1989.

Surviving are sons, John III, Wilkes-Barre; Tim, Larksville; daughters, Jill Bursack, Philadelphia; Jane Stewart, McCungie; brother, James, Luzerne; sister, Joan Lynch, Swoyersville; 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday from the Matthew T. Jacobs Home for Funerals, 47 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Therese's Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
