The Rev. Clifford Rogers officiated at final rites for Mrs. Mary Thornson from the First Presbyterian church Friday afternoon, April 5.
Mrs. Thornson, who had been in poor health for several years, passed away at the Wengenroth Home Tuesday evening, April 2. She would have been 91 years of age on her next birthday.
Mrs. D. L. Keith was organist and accompanied John Bell and Mrs. N. E. Elness who sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Savior." Mrs. F. C. Fredericksen and Mrs. Charles Flinn were in charge of the flowers.
Casket bearers were Charles Flinn, Harold Granum, Eldon Detamore, Marvin Hawkins, Fred Nelson and Carl Nieman. Interment was in the Marshall cemetery, Marshall, Minn. Funeral arrangements were made by the Hanson Funeral Chapel.
Mary Susan, daughter of George and Margaret Barney, was born at Lincoln, Ill., Oct. 22, 1866. In 1883 the family moved to Blunt, S. D.
In December, 1886, she and Richard Thornson were united in marriage. They lived at Blunt until 1891 when they moved to MArshall, Minn., and entered business. In 1912 they moved to Montevideo and it was here that Mr. Thornson passed away in June of 1917.
In 1920 Mrs. Thornson moved to Pipestone where she entered the grocery business with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dolan. This they sold in 1935. In 1937 she moved to Windom with the Dolans and this has since been her home.
Mrs. Thornson is preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Edna, who passed away in infancy. She is survived by five daughters: Margaret (Mrs. Joe Dolan), Windom; Theresa (Mrs. Arthur Hardy), Marshall; Grace (Mrs. H. O. Hegre), Seattle, Wash.; Nell (Mrs. Walter Maehling), Terre Haute, Ind.; Evelyn (Mrs. Warren Denison), Mankato; 12 granchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thornson was a member of the Windom Presbyterian church, which she attended regularly until il health prohibited. She was a kind and loving mother and a friend to all who knew her. She will not only be missed by members of the immediate family but by a large circle of friends as well. Blessed be her memory.
