According to family histories, Silas Monroe Hosmer was born 15 Nov. 1854 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL to Sylvester Washington Hosmer, Sr. and Lavinia Goodman Hosmer. On 7 Sep 1873 he married Margaret Caldonia Boyd in Ackers, Tuscaloosa Co., AL in a ceremony performed by Andrew Burchfield. They had 3 children: Thomas O. Brady Hosmer, Susan Roxannie Hosmer, and Caldonia Hosmer. After his first wife's death, in Dec 1896 he married Mary Alice Harvell in a cermony performed by Rev. Jesse Holman. They had 5 children: Leuvinia Elizabeth "Vincy" Hosmer, Janie Gay Hosmer, Cora Lee Hosmer, Nora Blanche Hosmer, Gertrude Lilis Hosmer, Octavia Hosmer, and Ada Marie "Rea" Hosmer. Silas was a Freewill Baptist preacher. Silas died on 22 Mar 1932 at the home of his daughter, Cora, in Jasper, AL. He was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Jasper, AL.
