Augusta, Ga. - Mrs. Margaret Elsie Turner Ferguson, age 80, passed away at University Hospital on Sunday, October 27, 2002, after a courageous three year battle with breast cancer. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2002, at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Timothy Owings, Rev. Rodger Murchison, and Rev. Jake Malone officiating.

Mrs. Ferguson was a native of Cowpens, S.C. and had lived most of her life in Augusta. She received a BA in English from Winthrop College and an Associate Degree in Library Science from the University of Georgia. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Augusta for the past 57 years where she also was a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. Mrs. Ferguson was active in many areas of her church. Her main focus was on her family and church. She will be missed by many friends.

Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Robert L. Ferguson of Augusta; son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Susan Ferguson, LaGrange; daughters and son-in-law, Ruth F. and John Rucker, Augusta, Mary Kay and George Franklin, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Martha F. and Richard Boyd, Conyers; one brother and sister-in-law, Neely E. and Mary Turner, Mt. Olive, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Christopher G. and Jennifer Rucker, Augusta, Wesley S. Rucker, Augusta, Elizabeth A. Franklin of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jason K. Franklin of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Chelsea K. Ferguson of LaGrange, Chandler K. Ferguson, LaGrange, Richard W. Boyd III, Columbia, S.C., Timothy A. Boyd, Conyers, Tyler T. Boyd, Conyers, Ashton L. Boyd, Conyers.

The family suggests memorials to the church of your choice, or to The Breast Health Care in care of University Health Foundations, Suite D1, 2100 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA, 30904. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Golden Circle and Crusader Sunday School Class of First Baptist Augusta, Tenth Floor Oncology, Unit and Fifth Floor Coronary Car Unit of University Hospital. A visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. October 29, 2002, at Platts Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue.
