Served during the Revolutionary War as a Spy and Indian Scout summer of 1776 and 1777, also volunteered as replacement for his father, John, who had been drafted into the Regiment of Colonel Crawford. In Sandusky and attacked by Mingo Indians, forced to retreat across the Ohio River. Next drafted to serve one month at Ryerson's Station blockhouse on Brushy Fork of Ten Mile Creek and at Crows blockhouse on Wheeling Creek, Washington Co., (now Greene Co.) PA. Was a scout at age 14 along Castile Run. Buried on son Daniels farm next door to the land he was given for Revolutionary War service.
