Margaret Brewer Couvillon of Ocean Isle Beach, NC passed away on Thursday, May
30, 2013.She was born on May 28, 1924 near Cheraw in Chesterfield County, SC and wasreared in Charlotte, NC. She was the oldest daughter of the late Barnard Bee Brewer, Sr. and Gladys Aree Hendrick Brewer.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Couvillon was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Aimee Clara Couvillon, brothers Barnard Bee Brewer, Jr.,Wade Marion Brewer, Sr., Carl Francis Brewer, Sr. and sister Catherine
Harriett Brewer.Mrs. Couvillon graduated as salutatorian from Long Creek High School in Charlotte where she was voted "Most Likely to Succeed". She then went to
work for American Trust Company (the forerunner of Bank of America) where
she became Supervisor of the Transit Department.After her marriage in1956, she and her husband moved to North Augusta, SC,where they lived for the next 18 years and brought up their family. They moved to Ocean Isle Beach, NC in 1974.God, church and family were the focus of Mrs. Couvillon's life. She began teaching Sunday School at age 16 and would buy all the children Bibles with her own money. She always loved children and produced Christmas pageants, taught Vacation Bible School, coached young cheerleaders and was an adventurous "Den Mother" to the Cub Scouts. She was a wonderfully
enthusiastic supporter of all her childrens' and grandchildrens' sporting events and loved to watch all kinds of sports with her husband over the years. In addition, she was Chairman of the American Cancer Society. She was a member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church where she served in various capacities over the years, including as Church Historian and on the Building Committee. She was a member of Circle #1. Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Frank Anatole Couvillon, Sr. of the home; two daughters, Caroline Kay Couvillon Austell and husband Larry of Kernersville, NC and Anne-Marie Couvillon Rourk and husband David of Shallotte, NC; two sons, Frank Anatole Couvillon, Jr. and David Brewer Couvillon of Honolulu, Hawaii; two beloved
grandchildren, David Chandler Rourk II and Aimee Catherine Rourk of Shallotte, NC; sisters Sarah Elizabeth Brewer Abernethy, Gladys Marie Brewer Cruse and brother Alva Richard Brewer, all of Charlotte, NC; sister Shirley Joanne Brewer McCullough and husband Kenneth R. of Marietta, GA and sister-in-law, Jean Helms Brewer of Charlotte, NC along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Sunday evening, June 2, 2013, at Brunswick Funeral Service, 5229 Ocean Highway West, Shallotte, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Shallotte Presbyterian Church, 5070 Main Street, Shallotte, NC. Entombment will be in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.She was known for her positive outlook on life, her absolute,
unswerving faith and trust in God, her love of books and for being a great cook. She not only fed your body, she fed your heart. She was greatly loved and adored by all who knew her.
