EDWARD RAPP, 83, IS DEAD HERE

Edward Rapp, 83, life resident of Burlington and veteran jeweler and well known business man, died at 9:15 a. m. Saturday in Burlington hospital after an illness of but a few days. He was taken to the hospital Friday from his home 1811 Rives street.
He was born in Burlington March 31, 1860, and had been identified with jewelry business since he was 17 years old. For a long time he was associated with M.C. Conner, in the store on the southeast corner of Jefferson street. When Conner died during a visit in Spain (*1905), he took over the business. In 1912 the Rapp store was moved to its present location on the north side of Jefferson street between Main and Third streets.
He was united in marriage with Flora Elizabeth Hermann in Burlington Oct. 7, 1886, who preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Masonic order-blue lodge, commandery and shrine, the First Congregational church, the Elks lodge and the Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are two sons, Paul of Burlington and Herbert E. of San Marino, Cal., and a grandson, Edwin Cady Rapp.
The body was removed to Burnett-Wallen funeral home where services will be conducted Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
In the HISTORY OF DES MOINES COUNTY IOWA AND ITS PEOPLE--ANTROBUS, VOL.II-PUBL. 1915, IN CHICAGO, IL., the following information was included:
Edward Rapp was of the second generation of Rapps to reside in Burlington, Iowa. He was the son of Jacob and Eva Marie (Koenig) Rapp. Jacob Rapp, the father, was from Wurttemberg, Germany and Eva was from Bavaria, Germany
Jacob Rapp was born Sept. 1, 1821, and was a locksmith by trade. Jacob left Germany in 1851 from La Havre, France to New York, first settling in Pittsburg, Pa., where he married Eva Koenig. In 1856, they came to Burlington, Ia., where Jacob continued his locksmith trade and died here on Nov. 20, 1913. To this family was born Pauline (died at age 3), Edward and William (died as a young man). (As of the printing Eva, the wife of Jacob was still living-died in 7 Nov 1920.)
In this historical biography, the wife of Edward is identified as Flora E. Hermann, the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Dewein) Hermann. It was stated in this article that he married Flora in November of 1886. However the obituaries both stated Oct. 7, 1886, but the marriage document on file stated Nov. 4, 1886.
No birth date/death date was ever given on Pauline Rapp, Edward's sister, who was buried in Aspen Grove with the family. William Rapp, the brother of Edward, appears to have died in Jan. 1895 in St. Louis, Mo., at the age of about 19 years. He was believed to have married and father at least 2 children there in St. Louis per present research on William Rapp--no stone for him at Aspen Grove, so he was not in Burlington when he died.
