Adam was born in that part of Morgan County, Ohio that became part of Noble County on March 11, 1851.

Adam was first married to Elizabeth Clifton in Delaware County, Iowa on Dec. 19, 1875. Nothing has been located to determine if they divorced or she died. Adam and Elizabeth appear no where in the 1880 census. Adam then marries Ida (Clift) Blum at Grundy Center, Grundy County, Iowa on Feb. 28, 1883. The marriage records state this was the second marriage for both. There is nothing on the records to indicate whether their first marriages ended in divorce or death. Ida Clift was born in Pennsylvania on Aug. 16, 1856 and died in Orange County, California on July 9, 1947, burial location unknown.
