Dr. Hiram Watkins Kostmayer Batson died Saturday at Ochsner Foundation Hospital after a long illness. He was 64. Dr. Batson was vice chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and head of the reproductive health section at Tulane University School of Medicine. He also served as clinical director of obstetrics and gynelocolgy at Charity Hospital from 1975-1978. In 1980, Dr. Batson was appointed project director of the Rural Infant Care Project of Tulane University. He received his bachelor of science and medical degree from Tulane University. He was a member of the Louisiana Perinatal Commission, the Orleans Parish Medical Society board of governors, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American College of Surgeons and the Conrad G. Collins Obstetric and Gynecologic Society. He is survived by his wife, Leta Covington Batson; three sons, Theodore G. Batson, of Atlanta, Georgia, James C. Batson of Jackson, Mississippi, and T. Bryan Batson of Gulfport, Mississippi, a daughter, Leta Branch of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday. Interment was in Garden of Memorials cemetery.
