Lemuel was the third of five children born to Wellington and Jennie (Markhart) Gulliver. He married Dora Annette Richardson on April 5th, 1930. They had three children; Ruth, Dale, and Bruce. His obituary in the Saginaw News states, "He was a member of the Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, the Salina Lodge No. 155, F&AM, the Bay City Consistory, and the Y.M.C.A. Retired Men's Club. He had been employed in supervision at the Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry for over 40 years, retiring in 1963."
