LUTHER ROE
After an extended illness, Luther Roe, aged 39 years, died at his home in Harrison county six miles northeast of Longview Last Thursday. This leaves four small children, three daughters and one son, motherless and fatherless.

The funeral services were conducted at Lagrone's Chapel last Friday by Elder Holton, of the Christian church, of which Mr. Roe was a member.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to the children and other relatives in their deep sorrow."

----------------

Luther "Luke" Roe married Miss Fannie Roe in Gregg Co., TX on August 20, 1886. Fannie was b. abt. 1870 TX. This is where a double ROE line and a double BOAZ line merge, Fannie being the daughter of Abe C. Roe and Elizabeth Boaz, and Luke being the grandson of William P. Roe and Agnes Boaz. The two elder Roe men were brothers, and the Boaz women were sisters.

Luke and Annie had four children together, all in Gregg Co., TX;
1. Jessie B. Roe, b. 1888 (female)
2. Horace C. Roe, b. 1891
3. Annie D. Roe, b. 1893
4. Willie Ogie Roe, b. 1896

A notice in the "Marshall Messenger" newspaper in Marshall, TX published December 12, 1907, states: "Luther Rowe died this morning at 4 o'clock at his home six miles northeast of Longview after an illness of several days. He was well known in this city being employed by T. H. Huffman. He was a member of the Bartenders' Union. The funeral will take place at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the family residence. He will be buried near his old home. Misses Grady and Emma Rowe, nee Moore, F. H. Huffman and wife left this morning to attend the funeral."

The first death notice indicates Luther's service was at LaGrone Chapel; the second notice tells us Luther is buried on his property. Fannie died prior to Luther, exact year and place of burial is unknown. She may also be buried on the family land near her husband, Luther.
