The Times Dispatch, Richmond, Va. 4-22-1909: GATHRIGHT. – MR. THOMAS MORTON GATHRIGHT was born June 1, 1842, in Goochland county, and died April 17, 1909, at the residence of his late son, William A. Gathright, near Maidens, Va.
Mr. Gathright was a faithful and gallant member of the Goochland artillery during the War Between the States. He was descended from Huguenot ancestry, being a nephew of the late Colonel Peter Guerrant, of Goochland county.
He was a Virginia gentleman of the olden type, an assiduous reader of standard literature, well informed and very entertaining. He was, besides, a tender husband and father and a loyal friend, a kind and popular neighbor and most useful in his own community. He believed in the “Saviour of sinners,” and his life was above reproach.
He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Mollie G. Bowles, of Louisa county, and by seven children, namely, Mrs. J. R. Massie, of Goochland county; Mr. T. M. Gathright, of Covington, Va.; Mr. Carroll Gathright, of Goochland county; Mrs. William C. Smith, of Pulaski; Eldredge, of New York, and Misses Heath and Janie.
The interment was attended by a very large concourse of sympathizing friends.
