US Congressman, Indiana Governor. A veteran of the War of 1812, he served as Governor of Indiana from September to December, 1822, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Governor Jonathan Jennings. He was elected as a Jacksonian Democrat to represent Indiana's 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving first from 1825 to 1827, then from 1829 to 1839. A cousin of American pioneer Daniel Boone, the town of Boonville, Indiana is named for him. Originally interred in Lousiana Cemetery, Louisiana, Missouri, he was re-interred in Riverview Cemetery.
