"Josephine Valentine of Newburgh, a longtime area resident, entered into rest Tuesday June 14, 2005 in Wingate at Dutchess with her family by her side. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Silvio and Maria Eanni, Josephine was born March 19, 1916 in Palata, Abruzzi, Italy.
She married her beloved husband, Nicholas Valentine, in December, 1946 at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Nicholas predeceased her in 1956.
Josephine was a 75-year parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, and served as a Eucharist Minister.
She is survived by her loving children: Mayor Nicholas Valentine and his wife, Susan, and Maria Gaffney and her husband, Thomas, all of Newburgh; her beloved granddaughter, Nichole Culotta and her husband, Gianfranco; her great-grandson, Giovanni Paolo, all of Nutley, N.J.; brothers-in-law, Joseph, Emil and Anthony Valentine; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Grace Valentine, all of Newburgh; and nieces and nephews: Joe, Jim, Pat, Judy, Joanne, Emil, Roseanne, Sandra, Bina, Gino, Barbara and Rosemary.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Miranda Pagani and Louise Ciola; her niece and godchild, Vera Swierski; nephew, Anthony Valentine; sisters-in-law, Connie Valentine and Katherine Valentine; and brothers-in-law, Etimio Pagani and Thomas Valentine.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, June 16 at Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 17 in Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
