Woman's Death Attributed to Area Snow Accumulation
Drifting snow which piled eight inches on the level at Two Rivers and four
inches at Manitowoc Monday night brought the death of at least one person
when Mrs. Arling Falk, 54, wife of the operator of the Washington Street
House at 1522 Jefferson St., Two Rivers, collapsed and died of a heart
attack while removing snow from her sidewalk at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
(snip about storm and snowfall)
Mrs. Falk's body was discovered by Victor J. Berger, and employe of Galecki
Clothing Store located across the street from the Washington House. He found
the body on the main entrance steps with a snow shovel at one side, within
minutes of the collapse.
Dies Instantly
The City's Emergency Vehicle, equipped with life-saving devices, reached the
scene, manned by Fire Dept. personnel, who employed a resuscitator until Dr.
S.K. Kaner arrived on the scene. It was believed that Mrs. Falk died almost
instantly.
Mrs. Falk, nee Mary Lydia Esther Culligan, was born June 23, 1907, at Algoma,
daughter of the late Frank and Salina Junio Culligan. She attended the rural
schools near Algoma and in 1924 the family moved to Two Rivers. She was
married Dec. 25, 1956, at Daggett, Mich., to Arling Falk. In 1945, the couple
took over the ownership and operation of the Washington House. She was a member
of the Altar Society of St. Luke church.
Besides her husband she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Kirchman and Miss
Marguerite Culligan of Two Rivers; four brothers, Earl, of Missoula, Mant.,
and William, Clarence and Wallace of Two rivers and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services are incomplete.
