!OBITUARY: DEATH OF O. M. GILMER FORMER NEWSPAPER MAN

PEACEFULLY GOES TO SLEEP, TO AWAKEN ON THE SHORES OF ETERNITY

Thursday, May 26, 1927
Herald-Enterprise, Golconda, Illinois, page 1

The death of O. M. Gilmer, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. L. Moore, in Goldconda, Thursday evening, May 19th, came as a surprise and shock, notwithstanding he had been in feeble and declining health for months past. As long as he was physically able to do so, he was a frequent visitor at the Herald-Enterprise office, and his quick wit and keen sense of humor made his visits always most welcome. He was a man of scholarly attainments and a Christian gentleman in the truest sense of the word--a man of sturdy character and strong personality.

Mr. Gilmer's life, for the most part, was spent in newspaper work. he was a forceful writer as well as a practical printer, and found great pleasure in pursuing his chosen profession, until the ravages of time forbade. At the time of his death he was 77 years of age.

it was the happy privilege of Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer to travel life's highway together for more than fifty-six years, they having celebrated their golden wedding in Golconda Feb. 24th, 1921.

Mrs. Gilmer, and the four children born to them, survive the husband and father, and all were privileged to attend the funeral, held in his late home, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. rev. C. L. Phifer, pastor of the First Methodist church, assisted by Rev. W. H. Kielhorn, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiate. Interment took place in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

It is appointed to man once to die, it is true, but notwitstanding this, the darts penetrate just as deeply and cause the heart to bleed.

Hero of strife and peace, rest and live forever!
