It was suggestd that Otis was born on July 7 1830. The gravestone is engraved "Born July 29."
By 1850, Otis was living in Baltimore, Windsor, Vermont, working on the farm of Willard Davis.

From November 21 1862 - November 21 1865, Otis served with the 9th Vermont Infantry. After completing his service, he was farming, apparently on his own, in Chester, Vermont. The task may have been too big for a single person; by 1880, Otis was working on the farm of Charles Spaulding in Cavendish, Vermont. He continued to work as a farmer until his death.

Bellows Falls Times (Bellows Falls, VT) April 30, 1898: "Proctorsville.
Otis Fletcher, who worked for Miss Celia Davis, died the first of the week. Funeral was at Miss Davis' house on Thursday."
PLEASE NOTE that some records seem to suggest that Otis died in Chester, because his death was registered by the Chester Town Clerk. Otis died in Proctorsville, which is a village in the town of Cavendish Vermont. During this time period, births, marriages, and deaths may have been registered by multiple Town Clerks (Deaths, for example, may have be registered by the the Town Clerk where the deceased was born, where they died, and where they were buried. If a bride and groom lived in separate towns, the Town Clerks in both towns may have registered their marriage. )
