Obituary from the Hutchinson News, 2/11/1937:

M.A. Draper, of Lawrence, conducted the funeral service at the burial of Mrs. Mary Turner at Peace creek church Monday. She was 87 years old, a resident of more than fifty years in that community. Burial was at at the Fairview cemetery, formerly known as the "Fred Yust" cemetery.

"MARY TURNER OBITUARY

"Mary Anne Kent, daughter of John and Jane Barrett* Kent, was born in Pike County, Indiana, July 28, 1849, the youngest of eight children, and passed away at her home February 6, 1937, aged 87 years, 6 months and 9 days.

"When she was about two, her family moved to Springfield, Mo., and resided there until the beginning of the Civil War. They then came to Olathe, Kans., were (sic) they lived for three years after which they moved to Canton, Missouri.

"There Feb. 13, 1868, she was united in marriage to Charles H. Yust. To this union seven daughters and one son were born, two infant daughters and the son having preceded their mother in death.

"In 1875 she moved with her family to Hayes Township, Reno County, where she has since that time lived.

"After coming to Kansas, she became a member of the Peace Creek Church of Christ.

"Her husband departed this life Oct. 5, 1883. She was married to William Turner in 1889 to whom two sons were born.

"She leaves five daughters: Mrs. Ed. Kreie and Mrs. Charles Hollenback, Sylvia; Mrs. Dave Ahrens, Oskaloosa, Kansas; Mrs. Bertha Reeves and Mrs. Perry Mather, Stafford; two sons William Turner, Nickerson; Tom Turner of the home; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

"The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Peace Creek Church of Christ, conducted by Marion A. Draper of Lawrence, Kansas. The body was laid at rest in Fairview cemetery."

*Note: The maiden name of Mary's mother may have been Garrett.
