Bertoldo

ARCOLA -- The Rev. Peter Paul Bertoldo, 70, of Arcola, formerly of Decatur, died 12:55 a.m. Tuesday (July 25, 1995) in Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Arcola, with Bishop Daniel Ryan, the Rev. Herman Niebrugge and the Rev. Kevin Van officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the church with 8 p.m. wake service. Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery. Arrangements are by Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola. Memorials: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur.

The Rev. Bertoldo was born July 8, 1925, in Decatur, the son of Rocco and Angelina Grosso Bertoldo. He was ordained on May 26, 1956, in Springfield. He has served St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola since Sept. 1, 1976. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School and Decatur High School. After completing his Naval service, he worked as an office supply salesman in Decatur. He entered Quincy College in 1948 for seminary studies. His 8-year seminary training included Springfield Latin School and St. John’s Seminary in Little Rock, Ark. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his brothers, Ben Bertoldo of Las Vegas, Nev.; Frank Bertoldo of Honolulu, Hawaii; sisters, Christine Reinhart of Decatur; Theresa Bullpitt of San Jose, Calif.; Rose Carney of Picayune, Miss.; Mary Schroder of Beloit, Wis.; Florence Gaffron of Decatur; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
